"We" would have thought most of that activity would have been left in the past, since "life-style changes" are propelling us into healthier modes of being, and if it wasn't explicitly stated that the goal was to be rid of such sideshows, it was anticipated to be a likely, if unintentional, benign side-effect.
But I've always thought of stalking, belligerence, and fisticuffs as integral parts of the Beast -- after all, it's a Jungle out there.
